Monique thank you for taking some time to answer our questions. Can you tell what course you are studying and what your reasons for choosing this course were?

The Diploma in Wedding Planning, Styling and Design – I have always been interested (some may say obsessed) in weddings, events and styling and I wanted to further my knowledge, skills and passion with study. I work full time and I wanted to be able to study at my own pace.

What has been the most rewarding part of your study so far?

Having a concept and developing it into something magical and complete. Progressing through ideas and motions of assignment tasks and handing in something you would be proud to hand to a real-life client.

What about the challenge of studying online? How are you managing this and do you have any tips for others who may be nervous about an online course?

The most challenging part about studying online is time. Setting aside the time to put your head down and do the assignments, especially when working full time and dealing with the nature of life and what it throws at you. There are no due dates for assignments, but it would be best to map out your own deadlines and stick to them. I try to have the current assignment in the back of my mind and when I have an idea or see something that inspires an idea, I take a photo, save or keep a note of it to refer back to.

Monique what plans do you have for beyond the course and how is the course preparing you for taking the next step?

After the course, I would like to combine my skills as a Graphic Designer and a Wedding Stylist, build a portfolio and eventually start my own design and styling company. The course is allowing me to expand on these skills, confirm the passion I have for the industry and give me the confidence needed.

If you were an event, what would you be?

If I was an event, I would be … a beach picnic. Living within walking distance to the beach most of my life, the ocean has been a significant part of my life and who I am. The event would be casual but chic and polished. With big pattern fabric rugs, layers of printed pillows for relaxing on the sand with ciders, fresh fruit and sandwiches (preferably sand free). A space where you can spend hours relaxing, playing games and having the sea as a perfect outlook.
